COURSE DESCRIPTION Highlighting the beauty, health, and wellness aspects of the professional manicure and pedicure, our 600 hour Manicurist Program emphasizes natural and effective beauty therapies, giving graduates the practice and experience to succeed in the modern-day spa and beauty industries.
METHOD OF INSTRUCTION Methods of instruction include lecture, instructor demonstration, and hands on practice with instructor oversight. * *This course may be taught as hands-on in person in addition to utilizing correspondence methods and on-line live training methods of delivery.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES The Connecting Point offers a Manicurist program that is licensed by the Colorado Division of Private Occupational Schools, Dept. of Higher Education. Our program is designed to prepare students to gain entrance and pass the Colorado State Board Exam for Licensure as a Manicurist. Graduates will be competent and confident in practices related to the beauty and manicurist industry. The objective is to provide training in basic skills, safety precautions, proper work ethics, and procedures related to professional manicure and pedicure services. The graduate will competently perform manicures, pedicures, hair removal (of the hands, arms, feet, and lower leg) and massage of these areas as well as be prepared to pass the state board exam and become licensed. On completion of this program, the student will be able to: Discuss and define anatomical structures of the hands, arms, feet, and legs; Explain the physiologic functions of integumentary system especially as it relates to skin and nail care; Identify safety issues, contraindications, complications and precautions of skin and nail care; Develop individualized care plans, services, and treatment protocols; Develop marketing strategies based on client demographics.
Week 1, Module One: Intro Manicure and Pedicure Intro to Manicure and Pedicure Module offers the student an overview of the manicurist in the beauty industry, the role and scope of practice of a manicurist, and a look at career options and opportunities available to the licensed manicurist as well as the dual licensed professional. A discussion of the training and skills within the program along with an instructor demonstration will be offered. Scope of Practice
"Manicuring" means any one act or practice, or combination of acts or practices, not for the treatment of disease or physical or mental ailments, when done for direct or indirect payment or when done without payment for the public generally. "Manicuring" includes, but is not limited to, the filing, buffing, polishing, cleansing, extending, protecting, wrapping, covering, building, pushing, or trimming of nails or any other similar work upon the nails of a person by Barbers and Cosmetologists 4 of 13 2016
any means, including the softening of the hands, arms, ankles, or feet of a person by use of hands, a mechanical or electrical apparatus or appliance, cosmetic or chemical preparations, antiseptics, lotions, or creams or by massaging, cleansing, stimulating, manipulating, or exercising the arms, hands, feet, or ankles of a person. Manicuring also includes waxing or the use of depilatories on the leg up to the knee and the waxing or the use of depilatories on the arm up to the elbow.
"Nail technician" means a person who engages in the limited practices of cosmetology known as manicuring. Unless otherwise licensed under this article, a nail technician shall not engage in the practice of cosmetology, except manicuring.

Weeks 2-6, Module Two: Basic Manicuring and Pedicuring Module Two encompasses the theory, practice, and art of the professional spa manicure and pedicure service. During this time students will be given demonstrations and practice on each other or mannequins while getting instructor feedback, becoming competent and confident in offering a complete spa manicure and pedicure service, including massage, client intake, and proper safety and infection control procedures. Students are introduced to the Anatomy & Physiology of the skin and nails and skin chemistry. At the completion of this module students will have completed a hands on practical exam/evaluation, completed/passed all written chapter exams and be ready to begin basic manicure clinics. Successful completion of this module is required to begin clinics and Module 3—Advanced Manicuring & Pedicuring. Weeks 7-15, Module Three: Advanced Manicuring and Pedicuring Students are polishing basic manicuring and pedicuring skills at this time and continue to receive peer feedback and review along with instructor evaluations. Students are active in a professional spa clinic setting and gaining experience in professionalism, client management, and spa activities and procedure. While trades and clinic are ongoing, students are being introduced to advanced topics and incorporate these techniques into their skill set. Instruction on nail enhancements including wraps, sculptured acrylic nails, nail art, tips and gels is given and students are tested out of these skills before offering them in the clinic setting. Advanced skills are learned, integrated, and refined. The study of Skin Sciences is continued and cosmetic chemistry and product knowledge are obtained in this section while safety and disinfection are ongoing. Weeks 16-32, Module Four: Hair Removal, Customized Manicure and Pedicure Treatments, Complimentary Beauty and Wellness Therapies Module Four begins after students have successfully mastered the basic manicure and pedicure service, and nail enhancements; have a basic understanding of the physiology of the integumentary system, anatomy of the feet, legs, arms, and hands, and are confident in offering these services using proper sanitary procedure. Module Four includes Hair Removal, Customized Manicure and Pedicure Treatments, and Complimentary Beauty and Wellness Therapies. Students strengthen their knowledge and increase confidence in each area by practicing integrated services. Students continue to refine their skills and defining what type of service they enjoy offering the most and how they will stand apart in the industry. Advanced and Complimentary modalities are introduced including Reflexology and natural product alternatives and services. The power of touch and massage are emphasized as bases for the therapeutic manicure/pedicure services. Instructor oversight and feedback and student reflection contribute towards the refinement of each students progression as a professional manicurist. Weeks 33-36, Module 5 Spa Internship and State Board Exams Students are considered at a professional internship level at this point and are active in internships while preparing for licensure and employment. Spa Internships, Career Prep & Business Skills, State Board and Licensing Preparation are ongoing. Instructors and Spa Owners will meet to discuss the student’s progress as a spa professional and any areas of potential improvement and growth are explored. This is the stage where students are integrating and perfecting all of their skills, enjoying feedback and support from instructors, peers, and professionals, while exploring goals and options in the professional job world.
